What is Hangover?
It is a response to alcohol withdrawal. It is a sign that one has had too much of drinks and typically it doesn’t have any lingering health consequences. Individual susceptibility varies and so not everyone gets hangover. There are few people who can process alcohol better than other’s. In rare cases people get headache after drinking. Psychological factors also affect drinking.
Symptoms of Hangover
- Vomiting, nausea, sour stomach.
- Sometimes, severe headache.
- Tiredness.
- Thirst and dry mouth.
Causes of Hangover
- If alcohol remains in the body, hangover symptoms are caused.
- In some cases even after the blood alcohol level is zero, their maybe after effects of alcohol.
- Alcohol also acts as a diuretic leading to dehydration and develops hangover symptoms.
Home Remedies for Hangover
- Dehydration caused by alcohol, can be prevented, by drinking lots of water.
- Headache can be relieved, by taking acetaminophen, ibuprofen, naproxen or aspirin tablets. However avoid taking it along with drinks as the side effects maybe severe.
- Drinking a little coffee can perk you up.
- Apply ice pack to the head for not more than 20 minutes at a stretch.
