High Blood Pressure or Hypertension is a common medical problem of the industrialized nations. Pumping of the heart causes B.P. and this force, moves blood through the circulatory system. Blood pressure can be expressed as systolic (high point) and diastolic (low point). B.P. is mainly regulated by small blood vessels (arterioles) that widen and constrict, causing pressure to fall and rise.
Symptoms of Hypertension or high blood pressure
Hypertension is called silent killer because it shows no symptoms. People with very high B.P. may however complain of headaches.
How is High Blood Pressure caused
Incidence of hypertension is high among poor people, black and uneducated people.

- High alcohol intake
- Obesity
- People with a family history
- Being sedentary
- High intake of sodium
- Kidney disease
- People who adopt westernized culture and lifestyle
- Job stress and insecurity
- Emotions like anger and fear .

- Exercise can help reduce your B.P. along with weight. But the effects will be noticed only after a few months.
- Follow a diet that is low on fat-dairy products and sodium; rich in fruit, vegetables and potassium.
- Do not rely on garlic to lower your B.P.
- Sodium (salt) intake should be moderate.
- Men and women should not exceed 2 drinks and 1 drink per day.
- Quit smoking.
