What is Impetigo?
Impetigo occurs when a cut, bite or sting is scratched, it may get infected bacterially and becomes highly contagious.
Symptoms of Impetigo
- Small group of red blisters break, pus and fluid oozes out and that area becomes damp.
- Soon after blisters break, that area becomes crusted and honey colored.
What are the causes of Impetigo?
It can occur by sharing clothing, towels or by having physical contact with a person suffering from impetigo. Children are the most affected because they play together and have more of cuts and sores.
Home Treatment for Impetigo
- Men should avoid shaving over facial impetigo sores, as razor may harbor germs.
- Wash the affected area with soap and water and apply antibiotic ointment (beta dine) 3 times a day, for 7 days. Cover the entire area with gauze.
- Scabs should be removed with a clean cloth dipped in warm water until it comes off.
- Wash your bed linens daily, after touching infected area, do not touch any other part of your body and wash your hands often.
Prevention of Impetigo
- Do not share personal things.
- Wash cuts and scrapes well.
- Avoid scratching, skin irritation, insect bites or scratch.
