Insomnia is a symptom where one is unable to sleep or stay asleep. People above 60 years of age are the most affected.
What are the symptoms of Insomnia ?
- Falling asleep becomes difficult.
- Waking earlier than desired and waking frequently during the night.
- Mood shifts, drowsiness, fatigue and inability to concentrate.
Causes of Insomnia
- The factors maybe psychological like depression, anxiety and introspection.\
- Hard-attempt to fall asleep, excessive time in-bed, napping and drug dependency are the Behavioral factors.
- Environmental factors like room temperature and noise.
Home cure for Insomnia
- Avoid smoking, drinking alcohol or large quantity of liquids before bedtime.
- You can have caffeinated beverages in the morning or early afternoon only.
- An hour before retiring to bed, relax.
- If you are unable to sleep even after 20 minutes in bed, get up and do something.
- Speak out your mind to someone if something is bothering you.
- Eating heavy meals in the evening should be avoided.
- Maintain a regular schedule of getting up and going to sleep.
- Daytime naps are to be avoided, except in few cases.
