What are Kidney Stones ?

They are solid crystalline lumps that separate from the urine and build up in the urinary tract. When the stone passes from the kidney to the urethra it causes maximum pain. They may be as small as a sand grain or as large as a golf ball. The pain reduces when the stone squeezes its way to the bladder.

  4. The passage of stone can be speeded by walking.

Prevention of Kidney Stones

  1. Urinary tract infections should be treated to prevent stone formation.
  2. If you have a family history, consult your physician about dietary measures.
  3. Drink at-least 3 quarts of water a day.
  4. Protein intake also has to be reduced.
